Salary delays lead RTK employees to protest

Employees of Kosovo’s Radio Television (RTK) demonstrated today following reports of incomplete salary payments for the month of June. Several trade unions mobilized to voice their dissatisfaction with the operational status of the public broadcaster. Participants carried banners bearing slogans such as “We want our salaries,” “Do not undermine public information,” and “We demand our salary, RTK.”

Three prominent labor organizations—the Independent Union of RTK, the RTK Workers’ Union, and the Radio Kosovo Trade Union—collaborated to express their concerns regarding the financial situation at the state-owned media entity.

The core demands presented by the unions centered on the immediate disbursement of outstanding wages and the guarantee of workers’ rights. Union representatives emphasized the critical nature of timely compensation, stating that “Behind every RTK worker stands a family. Salary is not a luxury.

Salary is the means by which we support our families and ensure our livelihood.” They clarified that their demands were not for special benefits but for the fulfillment of basic entitlements. The collective action highlights ongoing tensions between the workforce and the management concerning the consistent payment of salaries. The presence of multiple unions underscores a unified front demanding accountability and adherence to labor agreements from RTK.
