Starting today, electric scooters are restricted to one person for those over 18.

Effective today, significant amendments to the Law on Road Communication Safety have taken effect, introducing stricter regulations governing the use of electric scooters. These new legal provisions establish clearer guidelines for operators across various urban environments. A key change involves the minimum age requirement for operation; individuals must now be eighteen years of age or older to operate electric scooters, an increase from the previous minimum age of fourteen.

Regarding speed restrictions, the law mandates a maximum permissible speed of 20 kilometers per hour when operating on sidewalks and designated bicycle lanes. However, when traversing pedestrian walkways or mixed-use paths, the speed limit is strictly reduced to 6 kilometers per hour. Furthermore, the operational guidelines dictate specific behaviors when infrastructure is not dedicated to cycling.

If an operator encounters a situation where no dedicated bike lane or path is available while crossing a road or passing pedestrians, the scooter must be dismounted and pushed manually. Another critical prohibition implemented today is the complete ban on transporting a second person on the electric scooters. These comprehensive updates aim to enhance safety and order for all road users.

Compliance with these updated rules regarding the use of scooters is mandatory immediately following the enactment of the law.
