Iranian petrochemical facilities in the Khuzestan province of western Iran sustained damage this morning following aerial attacks, according to state media reports. Fighter jets targeted the Bu Ali petrochemical complex and the Bandar Imam petrochemical complex, with portions of their respective facilities experiencing damage, as reported by the state-run Tasnim agency. The Mahshahr Special Petrochemical Zone was also targeted in a series of attacks, according to Tasnim.
These companies are branches of the large Iranian petrochemical industry, the Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (PGPIC). The U.S. has identified PGPIC as the engineering conglomerate of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
These facilities were placed under sanctions by the U.S. Treasury Department in 2019. A law enforcement official confirmed the attacks but provided no further details.
