Tahiri: The government’s resignation exceeds its competencies, new appointments are illegal.

Alliance for the Future of Kosovo Criticizes Government Actions

Prishtina – Besnik Tahiri, First Vice-President of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, has responded to recent actions by the current government, asserting they represent an overreach of legal competencies and a violation of institutional order. Tahiri clarified that the resigning government is not passively “waiting,” but operating within a defined scope of responsibilities as stipulated by the Law on the Government. Specifically, Tahiri cited Article 31 of the law, which prohibits the initiation of new procedures for appointments to public positions during the transitional period.

He emphasized that this restriction remains in effect even after the dissolution of parliament, until a newly elected government attains full legitimacy. The criticism centers on the outgoing government’s announcement of competitions for approximately 20 senior leadership roles. Tahiri expressed concern that these actions were undertaken while the government’s competencies were limited, as defined by legal frameworks.

“The government’s actions require careful consideration,” stated Tahiri. “Maintaining institutional stability and adhering to legal procedures are paramount during this transition.” The statement underscores the ongoing debate regarding the powers and responsibilities of the current administration as it concludes its term.
