The blockage and diversion of Corridor 8 occurred by order of Vučić, as confirmed by the Serbian minister himself.

The Serbian government, led by Prime Minister Hristian Mickoski, enacted a significant directive to cease operations on the Corridor 8 project and initiate a complete overhaul of its plans. This action occurred within the initial six months of their administration. The Alliance for Albanian People and Ziadin Sela have voiced strong opposition to this decision.

They allege that the government directly instigated this halt. A key element of this dispute centers around a statement made by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Goran Vesic. This statement, relayed by the Bulgarian news agency, BGNES, in October 2024, was subsequently confirmed.

Vesic declared the alteration of the corridor a triumph for Serbia against Western influence. The government’s strategy involves diverting the Corridor 8 route and refocusing investments towards Corridor 10, intended to connect Serbia with Greece. Vesic asserted that this redirection will establish Serbia as the dominant hub of the region.

The original order to halt the corridor work has been officially validated, marking a pivotal shift in Serbia’s infrastructure strategy.
