Defendant in Pulse Nightclub Fire Transfered Due to Deteriorating Health
Kacan, Dejan Jovanov-Deko, the first defendant in the investigation surrounding the fire at the Pulse nightclub, was transferred from the courtroom in Idrizovo to an ambulance today due to a significant decline in his health. According to information emerging from the ongoing trial, Jovanov-Deko recently underwent a surgical procedure on his lumbar spine. Following subsequent complications, a second surgical intervention was performed.
His defense team has stated that his health condition is serious. “His health condition is serious and pre-arrest does not fulfill its purpose, but rather constitutes a preliminary punishment,” stated the defendant’s lawyer, who subsequently requested a change in the pre-arrest measure to house arrest. Following the deterioration, medical services were immediately dispatched, and Jovanov-Deko received medical consultation.
An assessment by the Ministry of Health was also conducted. The court confirmed the ambulance transfer and the provision of immediate medical attention to the defendant. The investigation continues, focusing on the circumstances surrounding the incident at the Pulse nightclub.
