The Government of Kosovo has formally authorized the Draft Law on Temporary Measures for Basic Products, also referred to as the Draft Law on Price Caps. Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced that the approval of this draft law ensures no price increases are impeded. Simultaneously, it prevents exploitation disguised as crises and manufactured price inflation.
“We are re-introducing this draft law as a crucial reaction to the experiences of our citizens – sudden price surges, market instability, and a deficiency in adequate protective systems,” Kurti explained. “This draft law doesn’t represent a transition to a completely unregulated market; instead, it safeguards the market’s freedom from manipulation.”
He emphasized that the law establishes a vital equilibrium. The intention is to address the current situation effectively.
Kurti, via reports from Telegrafi, added that the draft law is a necessary intervention. It aims to control the price of essential goods, offering a safeguard against potential abuses within the market system. This measure provides a framework to ensure stability and fairness for consumers.
