Second Election for Kosovo Judicial Council Head Fails, Re-Launch Scheduled

Kosovo’s election for the head of the Kosovo Judicial Council (KGJK) has failed to produce a result, prompting a re-launch of the competition. The second round, held on April 30, 2026, concluded with candidates Besnik Bislimaj and Rrustem Thaqi receiving only five votes, mirroring the outcome of the initial election. Following the unsuccessful round, the election process will be restarted as mandated by regulations.

According to “Betimi për Drejtësi,” Deputy Chair Arjeta Sadiku confirmed that due to the lack of sufficient votes, the competition will be reopened. The re-launch will provide 15 days for participation, involving 11 members of the KGJK. One vote was determined to be invalid during the process.

This setback underscores the challenges in securing a qualified leader for the KGJK. The purpose of the election is to appoint the head of the council, a key institution overseeing the judiciary in Kosovo. Further details regarding the revised timeline and candidate requirements will be released by the KGJK.
