Kosovo Judicial Council Election Moves to Second Round Following Deadlock

Kosovo’s Judicial Council (KJK) will hold a second round of voting to determine its chairman following a deadlocked result in the initial election. Rrustem Thaci and Besnik Bislimaj each secured five votes during the first round, with one vote determined invalid. This outcome prevented either candidate from achieving the required majority.

The election process is governed by KJK procedures, necessitating a subsequent round to resolve the impasse. Prior to the voting, both candidates presented their platforms outlining their vision for the future direction of the KJK institution. Besnik Bislimaj emphasized the KJK’s critical role, stating, “The judicial system is not just an institutional structure that enforces the law.

It is the main guarantee of justice in a democratic society. Through the courts, the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms is realized.”

The second round of votes is scheduled to proceed, marking the next stage in selecting the chairman of the Kosovo Judicial Council. The outcome of this round will determine the leadership of the KJK.
