Energy Regulator Adjusts Grid Injection Limits to Maintain Supply Security

The Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) has implemented revised maximum grid injection allowances for key operators, aiming to prevent electricity curtailment and safeguard supply security. Following a recent meeting of the Regulatory Commission for Energy Regulation (ZRRE), the ERO has set specific revenue limits for the Transmission System Operator (KOSTT), Distribution System Operator (KEDS), and Universal Service Provider (KESCO). Effective today, the maximum grid injection permitted for KOSTT will be 76 million euros.

KEDS’s maximum injection allowance is set at 185 million euros, while KESCO’s maximum revenue injection will be 442 million euros. The adjustments were driven by a need to manage the increasing influx of electricity imports. Muharrem Gashi, from the tariffs and prices department, explained that the revised limits reflect the necessity to adapt to elevated import volumes.

The KOSTT initially requested a maximum of 99 million euros, representing a 23 percent increase compared to previous values. These changes represent a strategic response to ensure continued electricity provision and maintain vendor production capabilities. The ERO’s actions prioritize stability within the energy market, focusing on a maximum revenue framework for each operator.

  1. This adjustment by the ERO seems like a sensible step to ensure a stable electricity supply.
