The Environmental Guard was established to protect nature and mark Earth Day.

Kosovo Launches New Initiative for Nature Protection on World Environment Day

Pristina, Kosovo – Prime Minister Albin Kurti addressed the public today, marking World Environment Day, emphasizing a renewed commitment to safeguarding the nation’s natural resources. Speaking alongside Interior Minister Xhelal Sveçla, Kurti highlighted a previously allocated 10 million euro investment for riverbank construction, a key component of broader environmental protection efforts. The event saw the signing of a memorandum between the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Interior, establishing a dedicated “guard” for nature protection.

Kurti described this initiative as a collaborative “alliance between citizens and the state,” underscoring the shared responsibility for preserving Kosovo’s environment. “Natural resources are not anyone’s exclusive property but are for everyone together,” Kurti stated. He further explained that the newly formed guard represents a fundamental shift in governmental approach – moving from passive observation to active intervention.

“A state that is not a spectator but an actor,” he asserted, detailing the implementation of preventative policies, actions, and measures designed to mitigate environmental damage before it occurs. Interior Minister Sveçla added that the establishment of the guard will specifically focus on preventing violations of environmental regulations. The day’s events underscore Kosovo’s dedication to sustainable practices and the protection of its natural environment.
