Institutional stability has been highlighted by European Union representatives as a critical prerequisite for Kosovo to maximize its benefits from the ongoing process of EU enlargement. This emphasis came following a meeting in Pristina where Eva Palatova, the Acting Head of the EU Delegation in Kosovo, welcomed Valentina Superti, the Director for EU Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood for the Western Balkans. During the visit, Palatova stressed that achieving robust institutional stability within Kosovo is essential for the country to fully capitalize on the renewed momentum associated with EU enlargement.
Furthermore, she noted that this stability is necessary to effectively utilize various EU support mechanisms. These instruments include the comprehensive Growth Plan and the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA) program. The official statement from the EU Delegation reiterated this point, specifying that “Kosovo needs institutional stability to fully benefit from the new momentum of EU enlargement, the Growth Plan, and IPA.”
Superti’s arrival in Pristina precedes a schedule of meetings set for Wednesday, indicating continued high-level engagement between EU officials and Kosovar counterparts.
The focus of these discussions centers on the structural reforms and governance improvements required to align Kosovo’s institutions with European standards. The message conveyed by the EU delegation underscores that while the path toward EU integration is advancing, solidifying the domestic institutional framework remains the primary condition for unlocking the full potential of EU partnership funding and political support.
