Draft Law for Higher Education to Proceed Through Government Procedure
Skopje – The draft law concerning higher education, finalized by the Ministry of Education and Science, is scheduled to enter government procedure tomorrow following agreement with coalition partner VLEN. Minister Vesna Janevska announced the completion of the draft, representing the culmination of extensive review. The law encompasses six key points, with five having already been resolved through prior discussions.
A significant point of contention, the implementation of the ‘Hirsch Index’ for evaluating academic advancement, has now been addressed. The ‘Hirsch Index,’ a metric used to measure the productivity and impact of scientific publications, previously generated debate regarding its potential as a primary criterion within the education system. “Five of the points had also been discussed previously, as this was a process of refinement,” Janevska stated.
The finalized draft law now moves forward for consideration within the government, aiming to establish a framework for the future of higher education in North Macedonia. Further details regarding the specific provisions of the law will be released following its passage through the government procedure.
