The Health Minister, Azir Aliu, revealed that the current list of essential medicines had remained unchanged since 2015. A revised and updated version has now been created, with the goal of guaranteeing the availability of vital treatments for public health. This initiative also seeks to reduce healthcare expenses for citizens through insurance coverage.
“The sole completion of this update occurred from the end of 2025,” explained Minister Aliu. “This work was undertaken as part of the national drug platform, guided by the Ministry of Health and in collaboration with the World Health Organization and a dedicated working group.”
Zoran Sterjev, the coordinator for the update process, highlighted the significance of the revised list. He stated that it incorporates the most crucial medications required for managing prevalent illnesses.
The new list has been carefully tailored to reflect genuine healthcare demands and needs within the health sector. This updated list of essential medicines represents a key step in improving public health outcomes.
