The Moroccan who filmed swimming in the sea did not cross the border towards Ceuta

A video circulating on social media platforms, particularly among Albanian speakers, claims to depict a young man filming himself while swimming toward Ceuta. The footage is being identified as showing a Moroccan emigrant attempting to reach the Spanish enclave in North Africa. The discussion surrounding the video draws parallels to past migration events.

Historically, authorities have reported significant influxes of migrants crossing the border into Ceuta. For instance, reports indicated that around the end of October 2026, approximately 50,000 Moroccan emigrants crossed the border in a large flow that strained local administrative resources. These mass crossings have resulted in significant loss of life.

Spanish authorities have documented at least 72 fatalities from such crossings. Furthermore, the Moroccan Association for Human Rights estimates the death toll to be closer to 130 individuals, excluding dozens of people currently unaccounted for. In total, an estimated one thousand persons remain missing from these events.

The ongoing circulation of such videos underscores the persistent risks associated with the journey of swimming to Ceuta for Moroccan migrants.
