OVL UÇK Removes Plaque Honoring Osmanaj Family in Has
The Organization of War Veterans of the UÇK (OVL UÇK) branch in Has has announced the removal of a plaque previously placed on the residence of Ali and Nazife Osmanaj. The family, recognized as National Heroes due to the service of their son, Mehmet Osmanaj, from the village of Goden, was the subject of the commemorative gesture. According to an OVL UÇK statement, the plaque was installed without the consultation of local OVL UÇK structures in Has and surrounding areas.
Representatives indicated that the action was conducted outside established institutional procedures, spearheaded by Azem Syla. The organization stressed that this unilateral action violates established standards concerning the commemoration and honoring of objects related to the period of conflict. OVL UÇK – Has branch, clarified that the Osmanaj family’s house served as a base for the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK) between 1997 and 1999.
This base contributed to the efforts surrounding the liberation of the region. The statement emphasized the house’s function was not solely dedicated to a single individual but represented a broader operational center for the UÇK.
