Prime Minister Mickoski Stresses Consensus Needed for Electoral Code Approval
Ohrid, North Macedonia – Prime Minister Hristjan Mickoski stated yesterday that the approval of the Electoral Code is currently blocked in Parliament, requiring a consensus with the Social Democratic Party of Macedonia (LSDM). Speaking from Ohrid, Mickoski attributed the impasse to LSDM’s actions. The prime minister accused LSDM of withdrawing from the working group tasked with revising the crucial legislation.
Mickoski asserted that this abandonment prevents further progress within the parliamentary procedure. “As you know, the Electoral Code is approved by consensus,” Mickoski explained. “LSDM has abandoned the work of the working group for the Electoral Code and as long as this decision remains, we cannot approve it, because this is one of the laws for which consensus is needed within Parliament.”
Mickoski emphasized the necessity of LSDM’s return to the working group to facilitate the law’s passage.
The electoral code’s approval hinges on achieving a broad agreement among parliamentary parties. The situation remains unresolved as of today, with negotiations ongoing.
