The survivor of the Lybeniq massacre: 54 Albanians were killed on April 1st and 10 more on April 7th.

The 27th anniversary of the devastating massacre in Lybeniq was solemnly observed on Thursday. Businessman Amrush Ukshinaj shared his recollections with the FIVE program, detailing the horrific events of that day. He described the initial arrival of Serbian paramilitary forces, emphasizing their deceptive claim of being a standard army unit.

On April 1st, 1999, the village suffered a tragic loss, with 54 individuals losing their lives. Despite the immense suffering, some residents managed to escape the violence. Ukshinaj explained that the Serbian forces, arriving at 7 am, initially presented themselves as part of the Yugoslav Armed Forces, including a military trainee named Milladin Toplica.

He stated that several villagers accompanied Toplica, reinforcing the impression of a legitimate military presence. The forces demanded the villagers release the village, and, believing they were following orders, the residents complied. As the division was observed, Ukshinaj noted the presence of individuals lacking standard soldier attire, highlighting the unsettling nature of the situation in Lybeniq during that fateful April.
