Kosovo’s Tenth Parliament Deemed ‘Weak’ by Monitors

Kosovar Assembly’s tenth parliament is being assessed as one of the least effective in the country’s history by independent observers. The assessment, reported by Gazeta Express on May 3, 2026, highlights a significant lack of performance within the institution. Monitors noted the parliament’s inability to effectively execute core functions, most notably the election of a president.

This failure resulted in a call for new parliamentary elections on June 7th. During the ten months of this tenth parliament, only 24 sessions were held. Despite these limited sessions, the legislature approved 35 laws, including 24 international agreements.

Researcher Naim Jakaj of the Institute for Justice of Kosovo stated that this particular parliament lacked substantial control and influence. The assessment reflects a period of reduced operational effectiveness, with the parliament’s actions failing to meet expectations. The situation underscores challenges within the functioning of the Kosovo Assembly’s tenth parliament.
