Deputy Mile Cekov Announces Departure from ZNAM, Will Serve as Independent MP

Skopje – Deputy Mile Cekov announced his departure from the ZNAM party today, stating he will operate as an independent Member of Parliament. Speaking publicly, Cekov clarified his decision, asserting he is no longer affiliated with the ruling majority. In his address, Cekov explained his initial motivations for entering politics.

He stated his intention was to serve the interests of the homeland and its citizens, focusing on accountability for crime and corruption, and advocating for systemic change. He also aimed to demonstrate the potential for honest individuals and workers within the political landscape. “Two years ago I became an MP to prove that things could be changed, to seek accountability for crime and corruption and to fight for the change of the system, as well as to show that there is a place in politics for honest people and workers,” Cekov noted.

“Unfortunately, these changes are not happening,” he added. Cekov’s move follows a period of growing dissatisfaction within ZNAM regarding the implementation of promised reforms. The announcement marks a significant shift in North Macedonia’s political landscape, with Cekov now operating independently within Parliament.
