North Macedonian Minister Discusses Pig Slaughter and Hog Prices
Prilep, North Macedonia – Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Water Management, Cvetan Tripunovski, held a working meeting today with representatives from the Union of Pig Breeders, the Union of Sheep Breeders, and water management officials. The discussion centered on the current state of the pig and hog market. Approximately 100,000 pigs have been slaughtered to date, according to ministry figures.
The current price for hog meat is around 280 denars, a significant increase compared to the previous year. This trend is expected to continue in the coming months. Minister Tripunovski stated that the meeting with industry associations would focus on planned activities for the pig farming sector.
He confirmed that subsidies for pig heads, allocated for 2025, total approximately one billion denars. These subsidies were reportedly provided to pig breeders in accordance with commitments made to the pig breeders’ union.
