Two ships return as the Hormuz Strait paralysis continues

Strait of Hormuz Blockade Continues as Two Ships Return

The ongoing blockade of the Strait of Hormuz persisted on Sunday, with vessel traffic remaining largely halted. According to data from Telegraph, two liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers returned to the Persian Gulf after attempting transit through the waterway. MarineTraffic identified the vessels as Meda and G Summer.

These were the only ships with active transponders recorded passing through the Strait on Sunday. Both tankers had previously been subject to U.S. sanctions under different names while transporting Iranian liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the blockade on Friday, and no other ships were observed moving in either direction following the notification. The return of the two ships highlights the continued disruption to maritime trade within the strategically vital Hormuz Strait. Analysts note the significance of this development, given the previous sanctions imposed on the vessels.

The situation underscores the ongoing tensions in the region and the challenges to international shipping operations within the Hormuz area. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
