Two ships return as the Hormuz Strait paralysis continues

Strait of Hormuz Remains Blocked as Vessels Return

Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz continued to be severely restricted on Sunday, with the waterway remaining largely impassable following a closure announced by Iranian authorities. According to ship tracking data reported by the Telegraph, two oil tankers, the Meda and G Summer, unexpectedly returned to the Persian Gulf. MarineTraffic identified these vessels as the only ships with active transponders passing through the critical waterway on Sunday.

Both vessels have a history of sanctions, previously operating under different names while transporting liquefied natural gas (LPG) from Iran. The United States previously sanctioned the ships for this activity. The Iranian government, led by President Raisi, maintains its commitment to nuclear development as a deadline for a ceasefire approaches.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, initially declared by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Friday, has not been lifted. No other vessels were observed transiting the waterway in either direction following the initial notification. The continued blockage raises concerns about global energy markets and highlights ongoing tensions in the region.
