The Swiss Armed Forces are planning to begin producing military drones by 2027. According to General Benedikt Roos, Chief of the Swiss Armed Forces, ongoing conflicts are driving innovation and the production of Swiss-made military drones is already underway. Roos emphasized the increasing importance of new technologies in addressing security challenges.

He noted the rapid evolution of drone technology. “War is a massive stimulus for innovation,” Roos stated in an interview with Schweiz am Wochenende, as reported by albinfo.ch. Consequently, Switzerland needs to equip itself with systems that can be tested and refined.

New technologies are continually being integrated. The Swiss Army and Armasuisse, the defense procurement agency, are collaborating with federal technology institutes, including ETH Zurich and E, to develop and implement these advancements. The project aims to ensure Switzerland remains prepared for evolving security landscapes through technological development.
