Albanian Man Attempted to Sell Detergent as Cocaine in Switzerland

A 28-year-old Albanian man was sentenced to prison following an attempted fraud incident in Zurich, Switzerland. According to a report published by the Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) newspaper, the man, identified as Halil, was apprehended while attempting to deceive a police investigator. The incident occurred on January 2nd at Zurich’s central train station.

The investigator, operating under the alias “Hello Halil,” initiated contact with the suspect through a Facebook profile. The pair agreed to a transaction involving 50 grams of cocaine, slated to be sold for 2400 Swiss francs. The accused presented laundry detergent as the illicit substance to the undercover officer.

Swiss justice authorities subsequently charged the Albanian man with attempted fraud. A penal order from the Zurich-Limmat Prosecutor’s Office detailed the agreement and the subsequent arrest. The man was formally sentenced by Swiss courts.

The investigation highlighted the use of online platforms in facilitating criminal activity. Authorities confirmed the substance offered was, in fact, detergent.
