Volkswagen ID Cross revealed as rival to Renault 4

Volkswagen has introduced the ID Cross, an electric variant of the T-Cross, positioning it to compete in a competitive segment alongside models like the Renault 4 and Ford Puma Gen-E. The ID Cross joins a lineup of electric vehicles within the Volkswagen Group, alongside the ID Polo, Cupra Raval, and Skoda Epiq. This vehicle represents the fourth electric offering built upon the Volkswagen Group’s MEB+ platform, a streamlined architecture that also supports the larger ID 3 and ID 4, according to Telegrafi.

While the ID Cross is slightly larger in overall dimensions than its internal combustion engine counterpart, Volkswagen states that the electric powertrain results in a noticeable enhancement in interior space. Specifically, the vehicle offers a trunk capacity of 475 liters, which is 20 liters more than the T-Cross. Furthermore, an additional 22 liters are allocated in the front for the storage of charging cables.

The introduction of the ID Cross solidifies Volkswagen’s commitment to electrification across various market segments. By offering an electric version of a popular model, the brand aims to appeal to buyers transitioning away from gasoline and diesel vehicles. Its inclusion alongside other MEB-based electric models underscores Volkswagen’s strategy to provide electrified options across multiple vehicle classes, directly challenging established competitors in the crossover market.
