Hamza Declares President Election Matter Closed Following PDK’s Lack of Support
Kosovar Democratic Party (PDK) will have no vote in the upcoming election for president, according to Democratic Party of Kosovo chairman Bedri Hamza. Speaking on Klan Kosova’s “Rubikon” show on April 20, 2026, Hamza stated that the issue is now considered “closed.”
Hamza acknowledged that Prime Minister Albin Kurti may be able to secure the presidency through the support of other deputies within the Republic of Kosovo Parliament. “If Mr.
Kurti manages to elect him with the other deputies, we wish him success,” Hamza commented. Alternatively, the chairman indicated that Kurti could potentially appoint a president with the backing of 98 deputies not affiliated with the PDK. “If they manage to elect the president, we simply wish them success,” he added.
The statement reflects a unanimous decision made by the Democratic Party’s Steering Council regarding the president election. This development underscores the challenges facing Prime Minister Kurti in securing the necessary votes to appoint a president. The matter, as declared by Hamza, is now concluded.
