When Fiat specialists explored Albania in 1939

Prior to 1938, the vehicle inventory in Albania was relatively small, comprising 404 private automobiles, 124 buses, and 442 trucks. During the year 1938, the country recorded the entry of 205 vehicles; this influx consisted of 64 cars and 141 work vehicles, according to data provided by Armand Boçe. In the context of the Italian administration’s establishment following the fascist occupation, a significant technical assessment was undertaken.

Between June 2nd and June 5th, a team of specialists from the Fiat vehicle production company traveled throughout the region. This group conducted a comprehensive survey across key locations, including the cities of Tirana, Durrës, Berat, and Vlorë, as well as the Devoll region. The mission of the Fiat specialists was to evaluate the entire automotive infrastructure of Albania.

Their survey covered several critical aspects of the local industry. Specifically, they assessed the general condition of the road network, analyzed prevailing fuel prices, examined the state and availability of repair shops, cataloged the various makes and models of vehicles in use, and documented their associated pricing structures. The specialists also provided detailed descriptions of the existing equipment and the general operational levels across the visited areas.
