“You are not an objective source, the fact that you are Greek…” – Rama clashes with CNN journalist

Prime Minister Edi Rama participated in the World Forum Future Investment Initiative (FII) for a discussion with Eleni Giokos, a presenter and correspondent for CNN. During the exchange, Giokos questioned Rama regarding the Zvënrnec project and recent protests in Tirana. Rama asserted that the majority of Albanians support the project, suggesting that the public perception differs from the actual sentiment.

In the course of the debate, Rama addressed the nature of the interview, stating that he was aware of the outlet’s potential bias. He remarked, “Listen, don’t go there, because now I remember that you are from CNN and I feel bad saying it, but I have learned the hard way that you are not an objective source.” He further commented that his nationality influenced his reluctance to engage fully with the questioning. Regarding the specific issues raised, Rama confirmed that the land in question was acquired from investors and that it constitutes private property.

He also acknowledged that an environmental impact assessment is currently underway. Overall, Rama maintained that the claims presented by the journalist were not reflective of the broader national consensus regarding the development.
