Zelensky dismissed the international proposal: We are not idiots, we know what surrender of Donbas means

Zelensky Rejects Proposal Linking Security Guarantees to Donbas Territory

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has firmly rejected proposals suggesting that security assurances from the United States would be contingent upon Ukraine’s relinquishment of the Donbas region. Reports circulating in several Western media outlets indicate that Washington is exploring the possibility of offering security guarantees to Ukraine solely in exchange for a withdrawal from eastern territory. Zelensky himself has addressed these reports, stating them to be “unacceptable.” In an interview with German television ZDF, he explained, “They say that guarantees will come only after the end of the war, and the war will end when we withdraw from Donbas.

We are not idiots. We know what that means.”

The Ukrainian president emphasized that such a condition would fundamentally alter the terms of the conflict and effectively surrender territory currently held by Russian forces. This stance reflects a continued Ukrainian position prioritizing the defense of its sovereign territory.

The discussion surrounding security guarantees and the future of the Donbas remains a central point of negotiation as the conflict continues.

  1. “It’s disheartening to hear the President so clearly stating the unacceptable terms being presented.”
