ZKA initiates audit of the drug and medical device management system

As part of its 2025/2026 annual audit plan, the National Audit Office (NAO) has initiated an audit of the Barnatari system. This platform is managed by the Kosovo Agency for Medicinal Products and Devices and serves as the central mechanism for overseeing the registration, licensing, and circulation of both pharmaceuticals and medical devices throughout Kosovo. The scope of the current review is comprehensive, focusing specifically on the integrity and resilience of the digital infrastructure.

The NAO aims to determine whether the Barnatari system maintains adequate data security protocols and internal controls. Furthermore, the audit will assess the platform’s effective availability and operational continuity, ensuring that it can reliably support the essential daily activities of the regulatory body. Since its implementation in 2015, the Barnatari digital platform has become integral to the national pharmaceutical supply chain.

It is utilized by numerous stakeholders, including pharmacies, pharmaceutical depots, and other entities within the sector. With over 1,700 registered pharmacies relying on the platform, Barnatari plays a critical role in maintaining standards of quality and ensuring public safety within the country’s medical supply chain. The findings of this audit are expected to guide necessary improvements to uphold the robustness and reliability of this vital national resource.
