Residents residing on “Besnik Lajqi” street in Peja have voiced significant concern regarding the presence of stray animals, specifically citing disruptive nighttime barking. According to reports shared by local citizens, the noise pollution from the dogs continues despite the municipality allocating substantial financial resources toward managing the issue. In an effort to address the population of roaming animals, the Municipality of Peja executed a contract valued at approximately 258,000 euros.
This agreement, which commenced on February 12, 2025, and is set to conclude on February 11, 2028, is intended to cover the treatment of more than 2,000 stray dogs within the municipal boundaries. The purpose of the contract is to establish a structured management system for the local canine population. However, despite the considerable financial commitment and the formalized agreement, local residents maintain that the situation on the ground remains problematic.
They have appealed to local institutions, indicating a discrepancy between the resources allocated and the tangible improvement in the quality of life for residents.
