President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova stated today that climate change is no longer a distant threat, but a daily reality. She emphasized the need for North Macedonia to shift from a reactive approach to one focused on prevention, utilizing clear policies and coordinated institutional responses. The president highlighted the constitutional obligation to protect the environment, while simultaneously warning that continued legal and strategic implementation is crucial.
She noted that without consistent enforcement, existing legislation and strategies remain ineffective. “When we discuss climate change today, we are not talking about something distant and abstract,” Siljanovska Davkova explained. “We are dealing with a reality experienced daily – longer, more intense summers, air pollution levels, contaminated water sources, and the ongoing loss of forests.”
She underscored the importance of translating policy into tangible action to address the increasingly evident impacts of climate change within the country.
