Iranian officials reported that a tanker carrying 100,000 barrels of oil was attacked in Bandar Abbas, resulting in its sinking. The Foreign Ministry stated that the attack was conducted by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and occurred in the Hormuz Strait. Officials asserted the attack was carried out in response to the assault on Iran’s embassy in Beirut.
Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif was present at the scene during the incident. The Iranian Foreign Ministry indicated the action was taken in the name of the Iranian people. The tanker was en route from the Hormuz Strait to the port of Bushehr when it was attacked.
