What would the opening of the border post in Çakorr bring – in terms of road distance, tourism, and the relations of Kosovar citizens with Montenegro

Residents Plan Peaceful Protest Over Border Post and Road Issues

Residents of Pejë, Plavë, and Guci are organizing a peaceful protest scheduled for Saturday, April 25th, to advocate for the opening of the Çakor border post and the functionalization of the associated road. The demonstration aims to address ongoing concerns regarding regional connectivity and trade. The Pejë Municipality communicated to Telegrafin that the road in question is designated as regional and falls outside their direct administrative control.

They have formally requested the Ministry of Infrastructure to undertake its functionalization. According to municipal officials, representatives from Montenegro have indicated a willingness to open the border post. However, they assert that the issue remains largely impeded by decisions made by local political institutions.

Veton Mujaj, a representative from “Syri i Vizionit,” highlighted that the demand for opening the border post has been a persistent concern since the post-war period, yet concrete progress has been limited. The protest is intended to bring renewed attention to the unresolved situation and push for decisive action regarding the border post and the critical road infrastructure.
