KDI Program Manager Attributes Presidential Discussions to Upcoming Elections
Prishtina, Kosovo – According to Eugen Cakolli, program manager at the Democratic Institute of Kosovo (KDI), the recent period of intense debate surrounding the selection of a president was largely a strategic preparation for the June 7th snap elections. Cakolli indicated that the discussions extended beyond simply electing a president. “The aim has been ‘to archive rejections and publicly justify failure,’ which, we began to see today,” Cakolli stated.
He anticipates this dynamic will intensify “in the coming days and weeks.”
Cakolli referenced reports suggesting a potential offer from outgoing President Hashim Thaci to the People’s Democratic Party (PDK), involving the position of Speaker of Parliament. He also raised concerns regarding the evolving criteria for securing the presidency, noting earlier discussions centered on a parliamentary majority of 84-85 members. The KDI program manager’s assessment reflects a broader perception that the maneuvering surrounding the president’s role is a deliberate tactic to frame the political landscape ahead of the scheduled elections.
Further developments are anticipated as the political situation continues to evolve.
