LSDM: Mickoski preparing for the inclusion of Bulgarians in the constitution

LSDM Expresses Concerns Over Government’s Handling of Historical Commission

Skopje – The main opposition party, LSDM, has voiced concerns regarding the government’s approach to the Joint Historical Commission between North Macedonia and Bulgaria, accusing Prime Minister Hristjan Mickoski’s administration of secretive preparations for potential constitutional changes. The party issued a statement following comments made by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Zoran Dimitrovski. Dimitrovski stated on television that the commission, which holds regular meetings, was functioning effectively.

However, LSDM argues that the public has not been adequately informed about the commission’s activities, leading them to believe the government is “preparing in secret” for constitutional alterations. The LSDM statement emphasized the ongoing work of the commission, noting its regular meetings as evidence of diplomatic engagement. The party referenced Prime Minister Mickoski’s recent declaration that “in June, he will resolve all issues of reform,” and anticipated “news will soon arrive from Brussels.”

LSDM’s reaction underscores continued tensions surrounding the long-standing dispute with Bulgaria and the potential for constitutional amendments.

The party’s criticism centers on a perceived lack of transparency and a rapid pace of action regarding this sensitive issue.
