Former Zelensky Staffer Appears in Court Amid Corruption Investigation
Andriy Yermak, the former head of staff working directly for President Volodymyr Zelensky, appeared in a Kyiv court on Monday following his designation as a suspect in a money laundering investigation. The development comes as an ongoing investigation into corruption within Ukraine intensifies. Two Ukrainian anti-corruption agencies have implicated Yermak in a scheme linked to a luxury construction project valued at $10.5 million (approximately £7.5 million).
The project, located outside of Kyiv, has been the subject of scrutiny. Yermak’s legal representation has previously dismissed the accusations, asserting that he was not involved in any corruption scandal. The lawyer stated that the claims related to the construction project were unfounded.
Prior to the court hearing, Yermak addressed reporters, stating, “I have no home, I only have an apartment and a car,” and indicated he would provide further comment at a later time. The investigation continues as authorities examine potential links between Yermak and the financial transactions associated with the contested construction project. The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding corruption within Ukraine’s leadership.
