Former Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess has announced the formation of a new company, DIESS E-Agrartechnik AG, dedicated to the development of advanced agricultural machinery. The Munich-based firm plans to focus specifically on engineering and manufacturing an all-electric tractor line. According to Diess, the company anticipates introducing its first model of the electric tractor to the market in 2027.
A primary selling point of the forthcoming machinery is its operational efficiency. Diess stated that the new electric tractor is projected to achieve operating costs up to 50 percent lower when compared to conventional diesel counterparts. Furthermore, the design incorporates replaceable battery units, which are engineered to ensure continuous, uninterrupted operation throughout a full working day.
The scope of the technology extends beyond primary traction. The system is designed to support a comprehensive range of associated agricultural and municipal equipment, including loaders and specialized mowers. Looking ahead, Diess indicated that the company’s development roadmap includes the potential integration of autonomous operating solutions alongside the development of solar-powered charging infrastructure.
This multi-faceted approach aims to modernize agricultural practices by offering sustainable, high-efficiency power sources for the industry.
