Rexhep Meta, the father of Ilir Meta, has passed away at the age of 83. Following the death, legal representatives for Meta sought authorization for the political leader to leave his detention facility to attend his father’s funeral ceremony. According to reports from Top Channel journalist Anila Hoxha, the facility managing Meta’s detention reportedly advised his legal counsel that any such request needed to be formally directed to the SPAK (Special Prosecutor’s Office).
Although not formally confirmed, it was reported that SPAK has granted the necessary permission. Meta’s lawyer, Kujtim Cakrani, confirmed to Anila Hoxha that a formal request was submitted to allow Meta to attend the service, which is scheduled to take place in the village of Çepani, located in Skrapar. Furthermore, procedures are reportedly underway to facilitate Meta’s departure from institution 313 to participate in his father’s burial rites.
The focus of the recent developments centers on the administrative process required for Meta’s release to honor his father. The coordination between the defense team, the correctional facility, and the SPAK appears to be managing the necessary clearances to ensure Meta can attend the funeral proceedings.
