EU calls on political parties for peaceful voting in Kosovo

The European Union mission in Kosovo has called upon all political entities and their representatives involved in electoral bodies to guarantee a process that is peaceful, free, fair, and inclusive ahead of early elections. The EU statement underscored the necessity of robust institutional functioning within Kosovo and the continuation of the nation’s integration trajectory toward the European Union. In parallel, the Kosovo Police and the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor issued a joint press release affirming their dedication to upholding the constitutional order and the integrity of the electoral process across the Republic of Kosovo.

The announcement noted that law enforcement agencies have recently processed multiple reports concerning suspicions of external interference and illegal activities designed to influence the free will of voters. The authorities stated that foreign interference poses a significant threat to democracy and the independent will of the electorate. As a result of ongoing investigations, specific actions were reported.

On May 19, 2026, seven individuals were arrested in the municipality of Gracanica on suspicion of criminal offenses related to violating free voter determination and exerting political pressure. Furthermore, a subsequent arrest was made on June 4, 2026, in the same municipality, concerning allegations of bribery connected to voting activities. These joint statements highlight the commitment of local authorities to ensuring that the upcoming political process in Kosovo adheres to the rule of law, maintaining a stable and credible electoral environment.
