The Minister of Digital Transformation, Stefan Andonovski, informed Alsat that new national policies are set to enable citizens of North Macedonia to utilize the internet across European Union countries under tariffs comparable to those within the country. According to Andonovski, the local administrative requirements, including the completion of four specific regulations, have already been finalized. He noted that the subsequent timelines for implementation are subject to the European Union’s processes.
Andonovski expressed confidence regarding the transition, stating that he does not foresee major obstacles because the necessary legislation was developed in collaboration with all service operators. He detailed the domestic progress, confirming that the procedures on the Macedonian side are complete. This involved integrating four key regulations and directives into Macedonian law, specifically amending the Law on Electronic Communications and its subordinate acts.
He confirmed that this entire legislative step has been finalized, submitted, and verified by the Government, and subsequently transmitted for further action. The Minister emphasized that the establishment of this comprehensive legal framework represents a significant step for digital connectivity. While the final activation date is contingent upon EU timelines, Andonovski remains optimistic about the process.
The measures aim to provide Macedonian citizens with seamless and cost-effective digital access when traveling within the EU bloc, a development highlighted by the Minister himself.
