KMShK denounces the statements of the Deputy Chairwoman of the KPM regarding the “Debat Plus” emission

The Council of Written Media of Kosovo (KMShK) issued a public statement condemning the remarks made by the Deputy Commissioner of the Independent Media Commission (KPM), Drita Morina. KMShK objected to Morina’s warning regarding the potential closure of the “Debat Plus” broadcast on RTV Dukagjini, stating that this warning lacked basis within the KPM’s Code of Ethics. During an online meeting, KMShK assessed that independent regulatory bodies, including the KPM, must exercise increased caution when handling complaints.

The council expressed concern that some complaints might contain elements resembling Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPP), suggesting potential political influence behind such actions. KMShK characterized the KPM’s warning about “Debat Plus” as scandalous. The organization asserted that such pronouncements constitute direct pressure against freedom of expression and the media sector.

Consequently, KMShK called upon the KPM to adopt a more measured and ethically grounded approach in its regulatory functions. The statement underscored the importance of upholding media autonomy and adhering strictly to established ethical guidelines when addressing broadcasting content.
