The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) issued a statement reacting to an announcement by VLEN leaders regarding the Skopje-Bllacë project. VLEN leaders recently announced the allocation of 200 million euros for the initiative and indicated that construction is set to commence shortly. In response, DUI asserted that the concept, design, engineering, and initial budgeting for the Skopje-Bllacë highway were developed during their tenure in government.
DUI further cited several other infrastructure developments, including Corridor 8, Corridor 10-D, the Albanian Road, the Tetovo ring road, and a one-stop shop facility at the border with Kosovo and Albania, as achievements attributable to the party. A spokesperson for DUI stated, “The Democratic Union for Integration government conceived, designed, engineered, and budgeted the Skopje–Bllacë highway. The NIŠTO government blocked and delayed the start of construction of the remaining 10.8 kilometers of this project for a full two years.
Furthermore, our government completed an additional 2 kilometers.”
The dispute centers on the timeline and ownership of the project’s development. DUI emphasized that their contributions were foundational to the development of the route connecting Skopje and Bllacë. These claims highlight a political disagreement over infrastructural development credits and the progress of major national arteries.
