Booking cancellations in Vlorë, tourism sector expresses concern

The tourism season in Vlorë has shown initial positive momentum, recording an approximate 13% increase during the period spanning March, April, and May when compared to the corresponding period last year. Despite this encouraging start, representatives across the hospitality and operational sector have voiced concerns regarding potential headwinds that could influence the overall trajectory of the season. Industry stakeholders noted that recent developments within the country have begun to affect booking patterns.

Specifically, there have been reported instances of reservation cancellations initiated by international tourists who are seeking further clarification regarding the current situation in Albania. Vasil Bedinaj, the head of southern tour operators, emphasized that external perceptions are a critical factor influencing travel decisions. He stated that any lingering uncertainty or negative narrative surrounding the country could directly impact tourists’ choices when selecting a holiday destination.

These concerns were highlighted during a recent meeting convened among various industry operators, underscoring a need for stability and clear communication to sustain the positive growth momentum observed thus far. The sector remains closely monitoring the situation to mitigate any risks posed by external perceptions to the established tourism market.
