Prime Minister Edi Rama issued a statement this morning regarding the ongoing protests in Tirana, which are now in their 24th day. Via a lengthy social media post accompanied by a photograph of a demonstrator, the head of government addressed the participants. In his message, Rama stated that he does not view the protestors as failures of the protest movement, but rather as citizens who remain steadfast in their beliefs and concerns.
“I do not see you as the loser of a protest, but as the person who remains only with his beliefs,” Rama wrote, acknowledging the depth of feeling among the demonstrators. The Prime Minister emphasized that many of the people participating may be motivated by genuine concerns spanning various sectors, including the environment, the economy, property rights, public health, or social injustices. Rama indicated that he understands the anger felt by the citizenry and the issues driving the current demonstrations.
His address sought to acknowledge the underlying grievances fueling the sustained protest action in the capital.
