Anthropic has announced that the U.S. government has granted the company authorization to restore access to one of its most advanced artificial intelligence tools for select American organizations. This development follows previous restrictions imposed by the Trump administration, which issued a directive prohibiting foreign nationals, including some Anthropic employees, from utilizing the AI models Fable 5 and Mythos 5, citing national security concerns.
In response to the mandate, the company initially suspended access to these models for all clients to ensure full compliance with the government order. However, Anthropic stated that following a period of “close cooperation” with federal authorities, commencing on June 12, the company received clearance to republish the Mythos 5 model. The notification indicated that the government confirmed the ability to reintroduce Mythos 5, which Anthropic identifies as its most powerful model, for use within designated domestic organizations.
This marks a significant adjustment to the previous usage limitations. The ability to resume service for specific entities suggests a targeted scope for the restored access, differentiating it from the previous blanket prohibition. The company’s ability to navigate these regulatory changes and secure renewed access to its flagship technology is a key development for the AI sector.
