Macedonians: By 2029, Kosovo’s army will be ready to defend the territory

The Acting Minister of Defence, Ejup Maqedonci, has indicated that the Kosovo Army anticipates being fully prepared for territorial defense by 2029. Maqedonci explained that the nation is currently undergoing a decade-long transition period, which is scheduled to conclude in 2028 according to established planning frameworks. The Minister emphasized that significant progress has been achieved, noting that several key objectives set for the defense sector have been surpassed during this period.

These advancements span both the sheer volume of military equipment acquired and the diversity of the armament types available. Maqedonci referenced a plan approved by the Assembly on October 14, 2018. He stated that the current transition phase, which is nearing its planned conclusion in 2028, has benefited from substantial investments.

These expenditures have enabled the defense forces to exceed initial benchmarks. Specifically, the enhancements have improved not only the quantity of materiel but have also diversified the types of weaponry, addressing previous limitations in that area. The overall assessment suggests a trajectory toward robust national defense capabilities.

The stated readiness timeline for the army by 2029 reflects the culmination of these strategic investments and the ongoing structural development within Kosovo’s defense apparatus.
