Samsung DX employees are planning a walkout to protest against a hundred percent disparity in bonuses

Tensions have risen at Samsung following reported discrepancies in potential employee bonuses across its various operational units. Initially, employees within Samsung’s Device Solutions (DS) semiconductor division faced the prospect of a strike. Negotiations between the DS division’s union and the company ultimately resulted in an agreement that reportedly includes substantial performance bonuses for those workers.

However, this settlement has not resolved internal labor tensions. A separate union representing the Samsung Device Experience (DX) division, which handles the production of smartphones, televisions, and home appliances, has expressed dissatisfaction with the perceived gap in compensation. According to reports, the DX union is planning a protest near the Samsung Electronics Suwon factory scheduled for April 16.

The core issue centers on the significant disparity in the expected bonuses between the two major divisions. Workers in the non-chip manufacturing divisions are reportedly anticipating bonuses of 6 million KRW. In contrast, their counterparts in the DS division are reportedly slated to receive bonuses that are magnitudes larger, with some reports suggesting a difference of up to one hundred times the amount.

This situation highlights ongoing negotiations between Samsung management and different labor groups within the corporation. The planned protest by the DX union underscores the differing expectations regarding compensation across Samsung’s various divisions, setting the stage for potential further labor dialogue.
