Bryan Murray of New Zealand has been recognized as the world’s oldest water skier, achieving the title just a month and a half before his 95th birthday. The record was set in April when Murray, aged 94 years and 318 days, performed water skiing at Lake Kereta in Auckland. This achievement earned him the Guinness World Record for the oldest male water skier.
Murray has a long history with the sport, having begun water skiing in 1955. According to Telegrafi, he has participated in numerous competitions throughout his career. Speaking about his continued involvement, Murray noted that while he initially did not consider continuing, the sport evolved into a personal challenge that brought him enjoyment.
He added that the entire family’s participation in the sport was also a factor that brought them to New Zealand for a tour. When asked about the inspiration drawn from his record, Murray stated that while many people consider him an inspiration across all ages, the accomplishment itself encourages him to continue traveling. His dedication to the water sport demonstrates remarkable longevity and physical capability.
The title solidifies his status among the oldest and most accomplished skier in the water sport’s history.
